Mila’s Food Adventure in Porto: What I Love to Eat in the City
Hi again — Mila here!
Exploring Porto works up quite an appetite. Luckily, this city is full of incredible food, from cozy local restaurants to little bakeries that smell amazing the moment you walk past.
Whenever I arrive in Porto, these are the foods I look forward to the most.
The Legendary Francesinha
If you’re hungry, you have to try a Francesinha.
Imagine a sandwich filled with steak, sausage, ham, covered in melted cheese and topped with a rich sauce. It’s bold, messy, and absolutely delicious.
Locals will happily debate where the best Francesinha in Porto is — and honestly, trying a few is part of the adventure.
Fresh Seafood
Because Porto is close to the Atlantic Ocean, seafood here is fantastic.
One of my favorite meals is simply grilled fish served with potatoes and olive oil. Simple, fresh, and full of flavor.
Some of the best seafood restaurants are small family places where the menu changes depending on what came in that morning.
Coffee and Pastel de Nata
After walking through Porto’s steep streets, I always stop for a coffee and a pastel de nata.
These little custard tarts are one of Portugal’s most famous pastries, and Porto has plenty of bakeries where you can enjoy them warm from the oven.
Trust me — one is never enough.
Port Wine, Of Course
And of course… Porto is the home of Port wine.
Cross the river to Vila Nova de Gaia and you’ll find historic wine cellars where you can taste different styles while learning about the region’s wine tradition.
It’s the perfect way to end a day of exploring.
Porto is a city best explored on foot, so staying in the center makes everything easier.
